Vivica A. Fox Joins the 'Independence Day' Sequel. Who Else Is In?

Another original Independence Day star has signed on to return for the long-awaited sequel. And no, it’s still not Will Smith, who has long-declined a second ID4 adventure.

Vivica A. Fox, who played Smith’s exotic dancer girlfriend Jasmine Dubrow in Roland Emmerich’s 1996 smash hit invasion flick, will reprise the role 20 years later. Both Fox and Emmerich tweeted the news in the wee hours of Monday night.

Fox joins a cast that also includes Jeff Goldblum, who will reprise his role as scientist David Levinson, and perhaps Bill Pullman, who said he planned to come back for the sequel in late 2013. Presumably, should he return, he will do so as former President Thomas J. Whitmore, unless his character used the unprecedented alien invasion as cover to amend the constitution and abolish term limits.

While Ross Bagley played Fox’s son Dylan in the original, that role will now be played by Jessie Usher, who appeared in last summer’s football drama When the Game Stands Tall.

Newcomers to the franchise will include Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth and frequent Lars von Trier muse Charlotte Gainsbourg, both of whom join in undisclosed roles.

It’s unclear how the film will move on without Will Smith, the franchise’s main star, but still include his family, but our fan fiction has Jasmine marrying the recently widowed President Whitmore, with Levinson’s father, played by Judd Hirsch, presiding over the vows.

Independence Day 2 hits theaters on June 24, 2016.
