'Mr. Peabody & Sherman' Blooper Reel Lets the Dog Out

In Hollywood they say never work with kids and animals… even when the animal in question is a supergenius dog who invented a time machine.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman,” the big-screen adaptation of the ’60s cartoon, hits theaters this weekend, but apparently the brilliant, bespectacled title canine had trouble getting through some scenes. This exclusive blooper reel shows Mr. Peabody (voiced by “Modern Family” star Ty Burrell) succumbing to his animal instincts when confronted with peanut butter, a red rubber ball, or some well-placed belly scratches.

Creating specially made “outtakes” has become a tradition of sorts in animated films. Pixar popularized the idea in 1998’s “The Bug’s Life” by showing the mistakes the insect stars made during the making of their movie over the closing credits. It was so successful they added additional bloopers to the end of the film a few weeks later to encourage audiences to see it again. Pixar put more bloopers during the credits of “Toy Story 2” and “Monsters, Inc.” More recently, “The Lego Movie” also put out a gag reel of their animated characters clowning around, but that was released before the movie opened to get fans excited.
