As we’ve known for some time, Captain America: Civil War will pit rival factions of the Marvel Cinematic Universe against each other, splitting the Avengers into groups led by Captain America and Iron Man. With the trailers, the battle lines were clearly drawn. Team Iron Man included War Machine, Black Widow, Vision, and Black Panther. Cap had Bucky “The Winter Soldier” Barnes, Falcon, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and Ant-Man in his corner.

Turns out, Captain America also had a ringer.

Based on new toys unveiled at New York’s Toy Fair over the weekend, Ant-Man isn’t just the same mighty mite from last year’s film — in Civil War, he transforms into his supersized comic-book alter ego, Giant-Man.

While Disney and Marvel have yet to show any images of Paul Rudd’s Giant-Man in action, let alone announce that Giant-Man will appear in the super smackdown, Toy Fair displays from Lego and Funko confirm leaked toy images from January that the towering hero will figure in the fracas.

The adorable Funko figures don’t really show the scale of Giant-Man in relation to the other Avenger types.

But Lego’s Airport Battle playset clearly shows Giant-Man towering over the rest of the cast.

In the comics, Hank Pym first used his Pym particles to shrink down but eventually went in the other direction. As former Marvel mastermind Stan Lee explained to us last year, “I liked Ant-Man, but he never really became one of our best-selling heroes. After a while we decided to change the character — make him really big to fit in the Avengers with Thor and Hulk and Iron Man — and he became Giant-Man.”

And the guy many pegged to be the least valuable player on Cap’s roster is suddenly a force to be reckoned with.
