Hot Hero! Liam Hemsworth Shows Off His Independence Day: Resurgence Flight Suit – and Talks 'Heartfelt' Sequel
The clothes sure do make the man.
Feast your eyes upon a new photo of Liam Hemsworth looking battle-ready and very handsome in his flight suit from Independence Day: Resurgence.
"I felt pretty good," Hemsworth, 26, tells PEOPLE of the first time he put on the costume made from Italian fabric. "It had a sheen to it and almost an oiliness. They are really tight when you first put them on, but once they warm up they stretch out."
As a fan of the original 1996 film, Hemsworth jumped at the chance to be involved in the sequel, especially when he learned director Roland Emmerich was returning to helm Resurgence.
"When I heard that Roland was going to do the second one I felt really good about that," he says. "What I loved about the first film is that you have all this chaos going on and so many great moments of heartfelt emotion between two people, or really funny, humorous moments. And that's what we tried to get with this one. There's so much chaos but there's a moment to try and bring some lightheartedness and humor to it and I always think that works really well."
The highly anticipated sequel takes place 20 years after a group of extraterrestrials attempted to destroy the planet in first film. Hemsworth plays fighter pilot Jake Morrison alongside the majority of the original film's cast: Jeff Goldblum (David Levinson), Vivica A. Fox (Jasmine), Bill Pullman (President Whitmore) and newcomer Jesse Usher, who plays the son of Will Smith's character, Captain Steven Hiller.

However, don't be fooled by Hemsworth's professional fighter pilot looks here – because he hasn't yet learned how to fly anything.
"I'm flying a hybrid alien/human spaceship, so there's no real training you can get for that," he says with a laugh. "It's not a real plane. But we did have a lot of military people there on set and we had advisors who told us what a fighter pilot would do before taking off, checking the flight plan and things like that, which we did do in the film. So we always had really good advice."
Did playing a pilot make Hemsworth want to take to flying the friendly skies himself?
"No, because it would be a hell of a stressful job," he admits with a laugh. "I don't think I can handle that kind of pressure. Plus, I'm really bad with motion sickness. I get really dizzy. So probably wouldn't be good if I passed out."
Independence Day: Resurgence surges into theaters June 24.
