Here's All the New 'Star Wars' Footage You Missed Over the Weekend

image

The force just keeps on awakening, one new snippet of footage at a time. Over the weekend, two new Disney XD promos and a TV spot offered up some unseen shots from Star Wars: The Force Awakens (in theaters Dec. 18), while a fun Verizon ad gave us a moment of solidarity between Chewbacca and BB-8. Watch all the new Star Wars stuff below!

The Disney XD promo below features an obnoxiously perky narrator speaking from the set of The Force Awakens, and explaining the basic story for kids too young to remember previous films. (After all, it’s been a decade since a new Star Wars movie opened in theaters, and 32 years since the original trilogy concluded with Return of the Jedi. Feel old yet?)

We get a good look at this creature, whom we’ve seen before in Vanity Fair:

Could this be the mystery character played by Simon Pegg? The little we’ve seen of his costume seems to line up, but who knows? Moving on, here’s our first footage of the villain General Hux, played by Domnhall Gleeson, who orders his Star Destroyer to fire on a much smaller ship: Perhaps an X-wing, or Finn’s renegade TIE fighter.

There’s some new dialogue for young heroes Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe (Oscar Isaac). We hear Poe say, “We got company,” an echo of one of Han Solo’s Death Star lines from A New Hope (“Luke, we’re gonna have company!”).

We see Finn and Rey giving themselves pilot pep talks, each one saying, “I can do this” as they take Chewie and Han’s respective positions on the Millennium Falcon. (Where are Chewie and Han? Probably totally safe and happy somewhere. We refuse to speculate further.)

We also get a little more BB-8 for our buck; looks like the little droid has a mind of its own, since Rey is running after it down a mysterious corridor.

And that’s just from one clip! Below, here’s the U.K. version of the Disney XD promo, which features some extra snippets of the film shooting at the very beginning, plus a good look at part of the Millennium Falcon set.

There’s also a new 30-second TV spot:

In one scene, Rey watches a massive explosion go off in the forest. What could it be?

There’s another interior-ship scene, where Rey is piloting the Falcon with Finn manning the guns. Rey shouts, “Get ready!”; Finn replies, “For what?”

In another shot, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) shows us that the crossguard lightsaber is excellent for blocking laser fire.

Finally, here’s a fun Verizon ad that aired over the weekend, starring Chewbacca, BB-8, and a small squad of First Order troopers. On a set that looks remarkably like the Death Star, the droid borrows R2-D2’s old trick of hacking into the mainframe (or possibly Verizon’s Force-G network?), while the Wookiee fends off an attack.
