Helen Mirren on Donald Trump: ‘I’m a Believer of the American Democratic System’

Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren was among the guests at the Saturday afternoon Georgetown brunch hosted by Tammy Haddad before the White House Correspondents Dinner.

Mirren, who has voiced her support for Hillary Clinton in the past, took selfies with fans at the star-studded — by Washington D.C. standards — outdoor party. “Politics in America are always very exciting,” Mirren told Variety, as she took a sip from an orange smoothie. “It’s very watchable, full of drama. I’m observing it. I don’t vote in America. I’m not an American citizen. So I can watch with fascination.”

When asked about Donald Trump, Mirren only replied: “I’m a believer of the American democratic system,” she said, as her husband pulled her away.

Other sightings at the brunch included Charlie Rose (who gave Mirren a big hug), Rosario Dawson, Joy Behar, Candace Cameron Bure, Sela Ward, “Scandal” president Tony Goldwyn and former “Apprentice” contestant Omarosa Manigault.

The White House Correspondents Dinner will be emceed by Larry Wilmore.
