Newcomer James Scully and Grace Victoria Cox (Under the Dome) have been tapped as male and female leads J.D. and Veronica in TV Land pilot Heathers, a dark comedy series based on the cult 1988 film. The roles were played by Christian Slater and Winona Ryder in the pic, which focused on the pair’s trials and tribulations dealing with the social order in high school.

Reimagined as an anthology, Heathers will be set in the present day, as our heroine deals with a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers.

The pilot is expected to shoot this fall with Leslye Headland (Sleeping With Other People, Bachelorette) attached to direct.

This is Scully’s first episodic TV role. He’s repped by the Carson Kolker Organization. Cox next will be seen in Showtime’s Twin Peaks reboot and upcoming indie features Savage Youth and Public Affairs. She’s repped by Paradigm, Authentic Talent and Literary Management and attorney Karl Austen.
