Hawkeye Sings! Watch Jeremy Renner Cover Ed Sheeran on 'Jimmy Fallon'

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is the Avenger version of Ringo. He’s easily the least heralded of the six heroes assembling anew in Age of Ultron, and he wants us to know that that hurts. And as we all know, there’s no better way to communicate angst and pain than through a good ol’ fashioned piano ballad.

Renner turned up — in character — on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon last night to tickle the ivories and croon a cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud,” and he gets deep. He also drops random references to Mario Kart, pickle jars, and Paul Blart, but there’s plenty of soul-baring here, too. Watch it above.

It’s OK, Hawkeye, we love you.

Earth’s Mightiest must have killer karaoke parties. Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth have been known to break into song on screen. Scarlett Johansson has two indie albums to her credit, Break Up and Anywhere I Lay My Head. And Renner’s warbling might be the most earnest from an Avenger since Robert Downey Jr.’s 2004 adult contemporary album, The Futurist. (Yep, that’s a real thing.)

Avengers: Age of Ultron opens Friday.
