New ‘Gods Of Egypt’ Trailer”: Lionsgate Unleashes Super Bowl Spot A Day Early

You can speculate on what this means, but for whatever reason Lionsgate has opted to release the new trailer for its Swords and Sandals and Magic epic Gods Of Egypt a day early rather than during pre-game Super Bowl – sorry, “the Big Game” – as originally planned. And in accordance with divine instruction, you can watch it here now.

Lionsgate still has that plum 60-second spot purchased during the Super Bowl pre-game, so expect to see a much higher res version on your HD TV tomorrow. Why the studio opted for early release is anyone’s guess, but they got the drop on the films that will undoubtedly get far more discussion. Take that, Marvel. Brenton Thwaites, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gerard Butler, Rufus Sewell and Geoffrey Rush star in director Alex Proyas’ very… European take on Egyptian mythology, which opens February 26. The pic centers on a mortal (Thwaites) on a mission to save the world, enlisting the god Horus (Coster-Waldau) in an alliance against god of darkness Set (Butler).
