ITV’s UK Hit ‘Broadchurch’ Coming To BBC America In August
ITV’s hit contemporary drama Broadchurch is set to debut on BBC America at 10 PM August 7. The series, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman, was created and written by Chris Chibnall. It’s set in a quiet seaside town following the shocking murder of a young boy and focuses on the impact the crime has on the community when everyone becomes a suspect. The most tweeted-about UK drama ever, the show had Britain rapt over its eight-episode run and set off a “Who shot J.R.?”-type frenzy as it progressed. Broadchurch is a Kudos and Imaginary Friends co-production that’s distributed by Shine International. ITV ordered a second season back in April.

Douglas Trumbull Receive Locarno Film Festival Honor
Director and special effects veteran Douglas Trumbull will receive the Locarno Film Festival’s first Vision Award — Electronic Studio. The new prize is designed to highlight and pay tribute to a professional whose creative work behind the scenes, as well as in their own right, has contributed to opening up new perspectives in film. The 66th edition of Locarno will screen films Trumbull worked on including Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey and Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner and Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life as well as his own Silent Running. Trumbull will also offer two masterclasses. The Locarno fest runs August 7-17.

Sky Sports Giving Brits A Free Day Of Premier League Kicks Off
To kick off Britain’s Premier League soccer season, News Corp.‘s Sky Sports will offer free live access to every household in the UK on August 17. Sky has 116 matches lined up after splitting rights to games with rival BT, which is airing 38 live matches during the season. On August 17, Sky Sports 1 will replace the regular programming on Sky 2 (on Sky and other pay TV services) and Pick TV (on Freeview and You View), giving Britons a free day of football. Said Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports: “It’s our biggest-ever season of Premier League football, and we’re inviting every home in Britain to enjoy the opening day. All fans can join the action as we launch our new Saturday schedule for the most eagerly awaited Premier League season in years.” Sky’s new sports programming this season includes soccer talk shows Saturday Night Football and Monday Night Football.

ProSiebenSat.1 Re-ups License Agreement With Constantin Film
Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 Media and Constantin Film are renewing a master license agreement that gives the group exclusive free TV and VOD rights for all of Constantin’s national and international in-house and co-productions. ProSiebenSat.1 has also acquired exclusive pay-TV rights for further selected productions. Included in the deal are such films as The Mortal Instruments: City Of Ashes, Pompeii, Resident Evil 6, Fantastic Four 3 and Love, Rosie. The deals cover Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The ProSiebenSat.1 Group has relationships with studios and producers that include Warner Bros., CBS, Disney, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Fox, Lucasfilm, StudioCanal and Tobis Film.
