George Clooney to Be Honored With Cecil B. DeMille Award at Golden Globes

George Clooney will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille award at the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Monday.

Clooney won his first Golden Globe in 2000 in the Best Actor, Musical or Comedy category for O Brother Where Art Thou? He later won for Best Supporting Actor in 2005 for Syriana, and for Best Actor, Drama in 2012 for The Descendants. Most recently, he won Best Picture for Ben Affeck’s Argo, on which he was a producer.

Theo Kingma, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, announced Clooney’s honor. “The HFPA is honored to bestow the Cecil B. DeMille Award to George Clooney to celebrate his outstanding contributions both in front of and behind the camera,” Kingma said.

Clooney also has won two Academy Awards and has been nominated in seven different categories, which earned him a special spot in the Oscar record books. Clooney has been nominated in more categories than anyone else in Oscar history.

The Cecil B. DeMille Award is given annually by the Hollywood Foreign Press to an individual of demonstrated outstanding achievement in film and television entertainment. Recent honorees include Woody Allen, Jodie Foster and Morgan Freeman.
