Frankie Muniz Is Selling His Original 'Fast and the Furious' Ride

The love affair between Frankie Muniz and his 1995 Volkswagen Jetta from the original The Fast and the Furious is reportedly over. The actor, who dropped $100,000 on the souped-up, fully functioning movie prop when he was 16 in 2002, has put the car up for sale at collector auctioner Barrett-Jackson.

Noting that it’s currently owned by “Frankie Muniz of TV, movie, music, and racing fame,” the car’s listing describes it as “still like it was when the movie was filmed. The car has made several appearances over the years to help promote the movie franchise. It is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with automatic transmission. The car is set up with custom stereo that incorporates a Playstation 2 inside the car. A piece of movie history, this car is signed by actor Paul Walker, Chad Lindberg (who played “Jesse”), and director Rob Cohen.” In the 2001 film The Fast and the Furious, the Jetta is driven by Lindberg’s Jesse, who uses the car to enter Race Wars, only to lose it to Johnny Tran (Rick Yune).

Though he has appeared recently in the TV movie sequel Sharknado 3: Oh No Hell No!, Muniz (Agent Cody Banks) has moved away from acting and toward racing since the hit sitcom that introduced him, Malcolm in the Middle, was canceled in 2006. Now a resident of Scottsdale, Arizona, he’s competed in the Champcar Atlantic Series, Seabring Winter National, and Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race.

Muniz was ecstatic over the purchase in 2002 and was quoted by Entertainment Weekly as saying (or boasting), “The car came like crazy… loaded with stuff in it. I don’t even know what half of it does.” Thirteen years later, someone else will get the chance to try that 10-second car.
