Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway Go on a Galaxy Quest in the New Trailer for 'Interstellar'

For more than a year now, writer-director Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception) has maintained a near-cosmic level of secrecy about his new sci-fi film, Interstellar, due out in November; all we really knew was it starred Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and a giant wormhole in space. Now, after getting a long-awaited look at the full trailer, seen here first on Yahoo Movies, we have some answers — not to mention a lot more questions.

Set in the near future, Interstellar finds McConaughey — fresh from his Oscar-winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club — in the role of Cooper, an engineer and a pilot, and a father of two. After climate change brings on a global food crisis, he turns his focus on farming — until an old mentor (Nolan regular Michael Caine) recruits him to join a mysterious space mission. Its goal: Finding another planet capable of sustaining human life. No pressure there!

As with all Nolan films, Interstellar boasts a remarkable cast, including Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, and John Lithgow. But you’ll only see brief glimpses of them in this trailer. Instead, the focus is all on McConaughey, who’s spent the last few years transitioning out of rom-coms, and back into intense dramas like Mud and Dallas Buyer’s Club. Clearly, Interstellar looks to be equally gritty, but as we watch Cooper and crew zip through the universe, we can’t help but wonder: How much of the bigger story is Nolan keeping from us here? Where’s co-star Matt Damon? And will McConaughey get lost in space, or will everything turn out alright-alright-alright? We’ll find out when Interstellar arrives in theaters this fall.
