The First Teaser for Steven Spielberg's Big Adventure 'The BFG'

“It was the witching hour, when people go missing.” So begins the first teaser for The BFG, Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved 1982 children’s novel. The film tells the story of an orphan named Sophie (newcomer Ruby Barnhill) who befriends a giant. And while he seems scary in the trailer, he is fact The Big Friendly Giant of the title, played by Bridge of Spies’ Mark Rylance. Ruby journeys with the BFG to Giant Country, where they encounter the child-devouring giants Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement). Soon, she and the BFG are on a mission to save all of Victorian England from the vicious giants — and even the Queen (Downton Abbey’s Penelope Wilton) gets involved. The BFG has been in the works as a feature film since 1991; at one point, Robin Williams was attached to the title role. Written by E.T. screenwriter Melissa Mathison (who passed away in November), the fantasy film marks the first time Spielberg has directed a film for Disney. The BFG opens in theaters on July 1, 2016.
