First Jason Bourne Poster Brings Franchise Full Circle

The first poster for ‘Jason Bourne’ has been released and we’re getting a very unusual feeling of deja vu. Check it out below.

Where Jason Bourne used to lead and James Bond followed, it seems like the tables have finally turned and Bourne seems to be aping the Bond franchise with this poster for the series’ fifth instalment which could just as easily be for ‘Skyfall’ or ’Spectre’.

The tagline even has echoes of the theme song for ‘Casino Royale’, Chris Cornell’s criminally underrated ‘You Know My Name’.

The first Jason Bourne film ‘Bourne Identity’ was released in 2002 the same year as Pierce Brosnan’s critically-derided James Bond swan song ‘Die Another Day’ and Matt Damon’s amnesiac thriller was a shot in the arm for the spy movie genre.

Where Bond did battle with a cartoonish villain in his invisible car, paragliding on an arctic tidal wave through a fug of ugly CGI, Doug Liman’s adaptation of the Robert Ludlum thriller was spare, violent, and unbearably tense.

When Bourne took down an enemy with a simple plastic biro rather than an exploding pen, the message was clear: we don’t need gimmicks and gadgets any more.

The producers of the Bond franchise realised their property had become outdated and so we got the ‘Bourne’-like reboot ‘Casino Royale’ featuring a brutish and violent rough diamond Daniel Craig in the lead.

The series has followed the same path ever since and with ‘Skyfall’ and ‘Spectre’ being huge box office hits, and it’s clear it’s the OTHER JB’s turn to play catch up.

‘Jason Bourne’ is coming to cinemas on 29 July, watch the teaser below…
