Want a Single Serving 'Hobbit'? A Fan Made Trailer Re-Imagines the Trilogy as a Solo Film

As the Dec. 17 release date of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies approaches, a few fans are once again grumbling about the decision to turn J.R.R. Tolkien’s slight and charming 1937 fantasy novel into a big budget film trilogy.

One enterprising fan — L.A.-based film editor Joel Walden — has taken footage from the previous two installments and the Five Armies trailer and created a trailer for The Hobbit re-imagined as a single film that puts the focus back on the incredible adventures of a diminutive hole-dweller named Bilbo Baggins. Which is not to suggest that it’s lacking in action — though the re-cut clip dials back on the trilogy’s myriad set-pieces, there are plenty of scenes of peril and derring-do (actually taken from the book) all leading up the epic clash that gives the third installment its name.
