'Star Wars' Fan Video: Everyone's Least Favorite Gungan Becomes a Rebel Hero in 'Rogue Binks' Trailer

From the man who brought you Star Wars: The Binks Awakens — a fan video from last year in which everyone’s least favorite Gungan, Jar Jar Binks, took center stage in J.J. Abrams’s franchise reboot — now comes Rogue Binks: A Star Wars Story, an attempt to interject the floppy-eared alien clown into the heart of this December’s highly anticipated Rogue One.

In the new fan video (watch it above, andThe Binks Awakens below), Binks finds himself in the middle of Gareth Edwards’s prequel, most often assuming the role that will be handled in Rogue One by Felicity Jones’s Jyn Erso. Meanwhile, George Lucas makes a cameo as Imperial commander Orson Krennic (to be played by Ben Mendelsohn), and the Chewbacca Mom (a.k.a. Candace Payne) even shows up to enjoy the action alongside Return of the Jedi’s cute-and-cuddly Ewok Wicket. It’s a mash-up of the most absurd, delirious sort, and one that’s far less interested in telling a proper story than in simply smashing the series’ various chapters together in ludicrous fashion.

Rogue Binks’ s final scene further stokes the flames of a long-simmering fan theory that Binks is, in fact, the secret mastermind behind the entire Empire’s rise to power — a he’s-really-a-villain notion that even the actor who portrayed the character, Ahmed Best, recently suggested wasn’t as far-fetched as most assumed it to be.

The real Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, starring Jones, Mendelsohn, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen, and Forest Whitaker, debuts in theaters on Dec. 16.
