We Are Even Closer to Getting a 'Space Jam 2' Starring LeBron James

From Esquire

For the last few years, The Internet, purveyor of shameless '90s nostalgia,, has been the source of promising rumors that '90s cartoon/basketball movie Space Jam would get the reboot treatment in the new Millennium.

These rumors picked up steam last year when two things happened: First, LeBron James-the Michael Jordan for Millennials-gave an impressive performance in Amy Schumer's Trainwreck. His acting in that film alone led Esquire to implore that "James needs to make Space Jam 2." Then, as James announced a partnership with Warner Bros., the studio filed new trademarks for Space Jam. Since then, other than some early images of the new Air Jordan 11 with rumors it would be released to coincide with the movie in 2017, news from the Space Jam 2 camp has been sparse.

Today, the most promising news since James first signed on to "do a basketball movie" in 2009, brings us ever closer to an actual Space Jam 2. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6) will direct a Space Jam sequel written by Andrew Dodge and starring James.

While it's still early in the process, this is indeed the closest we've gotten to confirming that an actual Space Jam 2 will happen with James. Given the film only just now got a writer and director, it seems unlikely that Space Jam 2 will be ready for 2017, but we've already waited an entire decade, a few more years can't hurt, right?
