Evangeline Lilly Reveals When the Wasp Will Join the Avengers — and It Won't Be for 'Infinity War'

Evangeline Lilly may not have gotten to step into her own (tiny) superhero suit in last year’s Ant-Man, but Marvel will rectify that situation when she assumes top billing alongside Paul Rudd in their forthcoming sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp. What about joining the rest of her MCU cohorts? In a new video, the actress reveals exactly when her character, Hope van Dyne (aka the Wasp), will be teaming up with Iron Man, Captain America, and the rest of the (increasingly numerous) Avengers.

While speaking to Blastr at last week’s New York Comic Con, Lilly was asked about the status of the follow-up starring herself and Rudd, which is currently scheduled for a 2018 release. According to the actress, the film has an initial script, but she adds, “I haven’t seen it yet,” since it’s still awaiting Marvel bigwig approval before being put into official production. Nonetheless, the upcoming adventure will be something of a Wasp origin story — and because of that, she won’t be participating in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. Rather, she’ll be in the 2019 Avengers film that follows that installment.

“The Wasp won’t be in the first part [of Infinity War] — she’ll be in the second part, because they really want to preserve that reveal [of the Wasp in full costume] for Ant-Man and the Wasp. They can give it its due time.”

That strategy makes sense, given that Lilly’s heroine wasn’t even in costume in 2015’s Ant-Man. (Hope — and audiences — only got a glimpse of the new suit in a closing scene.) You can watch Lilly’s entire chat above.
