Emily Blunt Is the Worst Witness Ever In ‘The Girl on the Train’ Trailer
A whodunit cast in an ominous Gone Girl mold, The Girl on the Train stars Emily Blunt as a woman who believes she witnessed a murder while riding on the train to work — only to find herself the prime suspect in the investigation. Based on the best-selling novel by Paula Hawkins, the movie is a thriller rooted in the fractured perspective of its unreliable, alcoholic protagonist, and on the heels of its first tease, it’s now delivered a full-length trailer that continues to raise tantalizing questions.
Directed by The Help and Get On Up’s Tate Taylor, this eagerly anticipated fall release features the Edge of Tomorrow star as the tailspinning, recently divorced Rachel Watson, who on her train commute into NYC, regularly travels past the home of her ex-husband (Justin Theroux)— who’s now remarried — as well as the house of another couple (Haley Bennett and Luke Evans) on whom she projects her domestic fantasies. After seemingly seeing something horrible happen to that woman however, Rachel awakens to find herself bruised, confused, and with no memory of the prior evening, which becomes a problem when the cops (led by Allison Janney) come knocking to ask her about the whereabouts of the woman, who apparently has close ties to Rachel’s ex.
Like its prior promo (which was also set to Kanye West’s “Heartless”), this latest trailer goes too far in giving away key plot details, but it holds back on actually spoiling the role Blunt’s character may have played in the nefarious crime. Also starring Edgar Ramirez, Lisa Kudrow and Laura Prepon, The Girl on the Train’s comes out on October 7.
