‘Dunkirk’ Joins Toronto Film Festival Lineup to Celebrate IMAX Anniversary

The Toronto International Film Festival is typically a place to showcase upcoming awards movies, but the festival has just added an existing awards movie, Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk.”

The epic film, which was released on July 21 and immediately became a part of the awards conversation, will be screened in IMAX 70mm on Sunday, September 10 at the Ontario Place Cinesphere theater, the world’s first permanent IMAX theater.

The Cinesphere has been closed in recent years, but was recently restored and is due to reopen soon. The “Dunkirk” screening will be followed by a conversation between Nolan and TIFF Artistic Director Cameron Bailey, and will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the IMAX Corporation.

The 2017 Toronto International Film Festival will kick off on Sept. 7 with the world premiere of “Borg/McEnroe,” and will run through Sept. 17.

The festival announced on Aug. 22 that it would screen 255 features this year, but “Dunkirk” is the second film to be added since then. The first was the documentary “Gaga: Five Foot Two.”
