Donald Trump today told supporters in North Carolina the women who have accused him of inappropriate behavior and/or sexual assault are all liars. He is the victim of a “total set up” by the media and the Clinton campaign, the GOP candidate said, adding it’s time for a woman to come forward with similar charges against President Obama.
“I have no idea who these women are,” Trump insisted to an enthusiastic crowd of supporters.
“I’ve never met these people. I don’t know who these people are. I think it’s a disgusting thing. They have no witnesses,” he said, speculating they are seeking “a little fame.”
“When you look at that horrible woman last night…‘I don’t think so!” Trump continued, in an apparent reference to Jessica Leeds, who was interviewed by Anderson Cooper the previous night about the New York Times report in which she claims Trump grabbed her breasts and kissed her during a commercial flight nearly three decades ago.
“Believe me, she would not be my first choice,” Trump snarked of Leeds, who is now in her 70’s. “You don’t know – that would not be my first choice!”
The growing number of claims being made by women are “lies being pushed by the media and the Clinton campaign to keep their grip on the country,” he said.
“They are all false, totally invented…all 100% totally and completely fabricated,” adding, ““I’ve never met these people. I don’t know who these people are. I think it’s a disgusting thing.
Trump questioned the timing of the reports.
“It’s a total set up. Now, suddenly, after many, many years, phony accusers are coming out less than a month before one of the most important elections in the history of our country.”
One week ago, Washington Post released a 2005 Access Hollywood tape in which Trump is heard boasted to Billy Bush that he is so famous he can kiss and grope women with impunity. At the most recent debate, however, Trump said it was only “locker room talk” and that he never had actually done such a thing. Some of the women who have come forward have said his debate remark motivated them to come forward.
Today, the Washington Post reported Kristin Anderson claiming she was at a Manhattan club in the 90’s in which Trump, who she did not know and was sitting next to her, put his hand up her skirt. At today’s rally, Trump said, “One came out recently said I was sitting alone in a club. I don’t sit alone. I just heard this one. It’s like unbelievable!”
Trump claimed an eyewitness already has debunked the allegation by People writer Natasha Stoynoff that Trump assaulted her when she came to interview the real estate developer and his wife on their one-year anniversary.
The reason Stoynoff did not include her assault allegation in her People story 12 years ago “is very simple; it never happened. It’s a lie,” Trump said. “And let me tell you, if it did happen, 100% she would have written it; it would have been the biggest story of the year,” he said, noting he was the star of The Apprentice at the time.
“She’s a liar,” Trump said, urging his supporters “check out her Facebook page; you’ll understand.”
Moving on, Trump called President Obama “incompetent” and blasted him for spending “all day long” campaigning for Clinton instead of bringing jobs back to the country.
“He’s talking about me like he knows me. I don’t know him. He doesn’t know me.”
“Why doesn’t some woman maybe come up and say what they say falsely about me, they could say about him?”
