Donald Glover on the 'Adorable' Stripper He Plays in 'Magic Mike XXL'
In September, it was announced that Elizabeth Banks, Donald Glover and Michael Strahan had joined the cast for summer’s male stripper sequel-extravaganza Magic Mike XXL. Only Strahan — who once lobbied star Channing Tatum for a role by dropping his pants on Live! — revealed who his character would be, telling the world he would indeed be “going nude” in the movie. Now we can confirm Glover’s going to be showing some skin too, and you can watch him talk about the role in the video above.
"I’m playing a stripper, essentially," Glover said with a coy laugh in our recent ‘Things We’ve Always Wondered’ interview (full episode coming on Thursday). "Jada calls me ‘adorable’ in the movie." He added jokingly: "When girls come in and they’re like, "I don’t really want to be like sexified. I kinda just want to hug somebody. That’s who [I play]."

The ex-Community star took dance lessons for the part and doesn’t appear too shy about the fact that he will be on full display for millions of moviegoers come July. He had good practice when the production filmed a scene in front of 900 screaming women in Savannah, Georgia. “I was like, ‘Yo, this is great. It’s an energy that can’t really be duplicated.”
Magic Mike XXL opens July 1. In the meantime you can see Glover (fully clothed) in the new horror movie, The Lazarus Effect, in theaters Friday.
