ROME – The Doha Film Institute is forging stronger ties with Italy’s Giffoni Film Festival for children as Doha launches its own kiddie fest in November with a similar format.
The now reconceived annual Doha fest had been collaborating for years with Giffoni, which is currently underway in Italy and is considered Europe’s largest kiddie fest. Giffoni is known for having hundreds of youths as jurors from all over the world.
But the DFI/Giffoni rapport now becomes an ongoing partnership, just as the DFI launches its new Ajyal Film Festval for the Young, headed by Fatma Al Remaihi (pictured) which will also have hundreds of youths as jurors and titles divided into different age-appropriate sections, just like Giffoni.
The inaugural five-day Ajyal Film Festival for the Young will run November 26-30 in Doha.
The DFI’s other new fest, the Qumra Film Festival, Doha, dedicated to first and second works, will instead take place in March.
