The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has launched Academy Gold, a new summer internship and mentoring program that will pull from underrepresented communities.
The program, which is meant to give film entertainment, technology, production and digital companies an opportunity to recruit and educate a nationwide pool of diverse talent, will bow in June.
The Walt Disney Company, Dolby Laboratories, FotoKem, HBO, Imax, Lionsgate/Starz, Panavision, Paramount Pictures, Participant Media and Sony Pictures are among the companies committed to participate in the program, along with Technicolor, Twentieth Century Fox Film, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros.
The eight-week program will offer more than 50 interns - both undergraduate and graduate college students - networking opportunities with Academy members and industry professionals, screenings and educational workshops.
The Academy also will build an alumni database to track the professional development of Gold alumni in both above-the-line and below-the-line careers.
