Deadpool Takes a 'Day Off' With Ferris Bueller in a Fun New Mash-Up Video
“What is so dangerous about a character like Ferris Bueller is he gives good kids bad ideas.” Ed Rooney knew that 30 years ago, and judging from the fun new mash-up “Deadpool’s Day Off” (watch it above) from the creative folks at the Darth Bender YouTube channel, “Deadpool” could just replace “Ferris Bueller” in that sentence. Look at what kind of trouble Negasonic Teenage Warhead races to get herself into under the influence of the “righteous dude” in the red suit right after Rooney delivers his line at around the 1-minute mark. The mash-up seems to suggest that Deadpool is simply a 21st-century Bueller with a dirtier mouth and regenerating limbs.

Darth Bender’s mash-up finds uncanny similarities between Deadpool and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, including fourth-wall breaks, car wreckage, and catchy musical sequences, smoothly swapping in Deadpool, Colossus, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead for Ferris, Cameron, and Sloane, and turning the 1986 light-hearted comedy romp into a 2016 light-hearted comedy romp—just add violence.
The juxtaposition of each movie’s visuals with the other’s dialogue leads to some dark humor twists, like Bueller’s parents commenting on how sick Deadpool looks while he is being tortured in an oxygen chamber or cutting together the good-hearted dance scene to “Twist and Shout” with Deadpool waving around his guns.

It’s no surprise Darth Bender would have a go at combining the two cult classics; the post-credits scene of Deadpool—which directly alluded to John Hughes’ 1986 teen hit, as Wade Wilson tells fans to “go home, it’s over” in Ferris’ bathrobe—planted the seed, more or less ensuring mash-ups were just a matter of time.
Darth Bender features several other hilarious Marvel mash-up videos, which can be viewed on its YouTube channel. A sequel for Deadpool has been greenlit, with star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller both returning.
