Deadpool Crashes the 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Trailer for Japan

You can’t keep a snarky bad man down — especially when he’s been genetically modified to resemble a burnt hot dog and boasts the power to instantaneously heal himself, regenerate lost limbs, and live forever. Thus, it’s really no surprise to find the superhuman being to whom we refer, Ryan Reynolds’s wisecracking Marvel assassin Daredevil, popping up in the Land of the Rising Sun to rattle off some jokes at the expense of his fellow X-Men.

In advance of its Aug. 11 release in Japan, Fox has released a new international trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse (watch it above), which recounts the Marvel mutants’ efforts to thwart the world-annihilating plans of Oscar Isaac’s ancient blue baddie Apocalypse. In a twist on a post-credits sequence, Daredevil shows up at the end of the trailer to count down the five most important things viewers may have missed. And true to form, he does so with a healthy dose of self-satisfied snarkiness, making sure to note that “Not everyone makes it to the end of a Fox movie.”

Considering that Reynolds’s red-suited antihero reminds viewers that Deadpool comes out in Japan on June 1, it’s clear that this clip has been out overseas for some time. Nonetheless, it’s yet another example of the shrewd wink-wink marketing that helped propel Deadpool to a $780.7 million global haul — the largest ever for an R-rated film — including $14.6 million in Japan.
