'Deadpool 2' brings the profanity and introduces us to X-Force in new trailer

Ryan Reynolds has been teasing Deadpool 2 for the better part of the past year, beginning with the stand-alone teaser in front of March 2017’s Logan, then via jokey social-media feuds with his co-star Josh Brolin, and most recently with a self-referential promo introducing Brolin’s Cable. And with only two months to go until the highly anticipated sequel finally arrives in theaters, he’s now ready to give the world a more comprehensive view of the Merc with the Mouth’s second big-screen outing — via a new trailer that finally gives some love to the cast of characters that’ll be joining Reynolds’s anti-hero on his latest adventure.

The (NSFW) trailer above finally confirms that the upcoming film’s title is, officially, Deadpool 2, and it also provides fans with a basic plot outline, which involves the red-clad assassin’s attempts to protect a superpowered boy (Hunt for the Wilderpeople’s Julian Dennison) from Cable, who has apparently traveled back in time from the future to find the kid. To aid in that mission, Reynolds’s character will put together his own super-team featuring, among others, Zazie Beetz’s Domino, Brianna Hildebrand’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Terry Crews’s still-unspecified mutant — which he dubs “X-Force,” despite the fact that Domino rightly calls that name “derivative.” Throw in a gag with Deadpool spinning around in Professor X’s wheelchair, some sword-enabled decapitations, appearances from Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa, T.J. Miller’s Weasel, Stefan Kapicic’s Colossus, Leslie Uggams’s Blind Al, and Karan Soni’s Dopinder, and — of course — a whole lot of wink-wink profanity, and the film certainly appears to be ready to live up to its predecessor.

Directed by Atomic Blonde’s David Leitch, Deadpool 2 arrives in theaters on May 18.
