Daytime Emmy Awards Live Blog: ‘General Hospital’ Wins Outstanding Drama Series

It’s night 2 of the Daytime Emmy Awards, with winners to be announced in 21 categories including derbies for daytime drama, morning show, and entertainment talk show. Naturally lots of attention is being paid this year to Live with Kelly and Michael stars Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan – the duo had their own daytime drama a couple of weeks ago when Strahan announced he was leaving Live to join ABC’s Good Morning America full time, and Ripa reacted by going MIA for a few days, stealing Strahan’s headlines. When she returned the following week after getting apologies from Disney-ABC brass, they announced he would exit the show this month instead of the originally announced September, to get his replacement settled in sooner, what with Kelly’s contract coming up in ’17. We’ll see tonight if they’ll go out on top despite the drama with a win for best talk show host, which they also nabbed last year.

As with Friday night’s Creative Daytime Emmys, tonight’s event happens at downtown Los Angeles’ Westin Bonaventure hotel. And, for the second time in the past three years (last year the event was telecast on Pop), the Daytime Emmys will not be televised. Back in March the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said cost was behind that decision, after a months-long search to land a show sponsorship was unsuccessful. But you’re in luck, as Deadline is live-blogging the whole show. Check back at 5:00 PM Pacific for our live coverage of the event.
