Ty Burrell's Brain Nearly Explodes from 'Mr. Peabody' Co-Star's Precociousness

CUTE ALERT.

For the many devoted fans of “Modern Family” actor Ty Burrell, we can all agree that there’s a level of cute to his sometimes-bumbling, competitive, kid-like portrayal of family man Phil Dunphy. Fittingly, there is also an element of cutesiness to Burrell’s vocal performance as genius talking dog Mr. Peabody in the new animated adventure “Mr. Peabody & Sherman.”

That level of charm, however, takes a backseat in favor of the “face-melting” general adorableness on display by Burrell’s co-star Max Charles, the voice of Sherman.

Yahoo Movies sat down with Burrell and Charles to discuss their time-traveling, brilliant characters, and the cute was on the full bast: When asked what genius things they do on a daily basis, Burrell turned toward his co-star: “You work in nuclear physics, so there’s that,” Burrell said of Charles.

"Yes, true story," said Charles, which caused a burst of laughter from Burrell. "I’ve been doing that for about seven years now."

"I wish I did something that was genius," said Burrell. "[Maybe] inadvertently making my daughters laugh accidentally, it’s not genius but I feel like one." (Apparently Burrell’s never watched himself on "Modern Family.")

Later, when discussing which of Peabody’s many impressive abilities they would like to possess themselves (like speaking multiple languages fluently or being able to play any instrument), Charles responded: “That would be pretty cool to play any instrument,” said Charles. “How about, we could go back in time and then come back in time to where you asked me that question…”

"My face is about to melt off," Burrell interjected.

"And then say, ‘Instruments,’ so then we would have both," continued Charles. "Except we would probably explode if we touched each other."

"I’m about to explode right now, my brain is about to explode," said Burrell.

Lesson learned: Leave all the entertaining to talkative 9-year-olds.

Directed by Rob Minkoff (“The Lion King”), “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” is based on the “Peabody’s Improbably History” segments in the 1960s animated classic “The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show” and also features the voices of Ariel Winter, Stephen Colbert, Alison Janney, and Leslie Mann.
