Comic-Con 2016: ‘Lego Batman Movie’ Star Will Arnett Is Ready to Find Out Why the Dark Knight Is So Moody

Think Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and the rest of Suicide Squad are the only DC characters with dark sides who still can still get a laugh? Don’t sleep on the Caped Crusader in the Lego Batman Movie; we bet star Will Arnett will keep it light, even as he told us at Comic-Con that the animated movie, scheduled for release on Feb. 10, 2017, will explore why Bruce Wayne’s alter-ego is “so lonely and sad and brooding, and why does he have such a chip on his shoulder?” Watch our interview above.

It certainly can’t be for lack of interesting company, as Arnett gives us the lowdown on his costars: Zach Galifianakis as the Joker, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, and Michael Cera as Robin. Arnett does take some credit for recruiting his Arrested Development cast mate into the fold as Dick Grayson: “I did send Mike an email early on and just said, ‘Hey, they’re thinking about doing [Lego Batman], it would be great if you would play ball. So, yeah, I negotiated his contract for him.’”
