Colin Farrell In Talks to Star in Sofia Coppola’s ‘Beguiled’ Remake (EXCLUSIVE)

Colin Farrell is in talks to join Sofia Coppola’s remake of the classic Clint Eastwood pic “The Beguiled,” sources tell Variety.

The Civil War drama currently stars Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning. Coppola (“Lost in Translation,” “Virgin Suicides”) is writing and directing the film. Focus Features is on board as a distributor.

The original “Beguiled,” directed by Don Siegel and based on a novel by Thomas Cullinan, followed an injured Yankee soldier (plated by Eastwood) who finds refuge at an all-girls boarding school in the South during the Civil War and cons his way into several lonely women’s hearts.

If Farrell’s deal closes, he would take over the role played by Eastwood in the original.

Youree Henley (“The Bling Ring,” “Somewhere”) is on board to produce the project, which is currently without a distributor.

No production start date has been announced yet.

Farrell is coming off some of the best reviews of his career in Yorgos Lanthimos‘ “The Lobster” and also appeared opposite Anthony Hopkins in “Solace.” He can be seen later this year in a key role in the “Harry Potter” spin-off “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

Farrell is repped by CAA and LBI Entertainment.
