Cleveland station pulls story on Ramsey's past

NEW YORK (AP) — A Cleveland television station that posted an online story about the criminal past of a man who helped free three captive women this week took it down after being flooded with complaints.

WEWS-TV removed the story about Charles Ramsey only a few hours after it was posted on its website Wednesday night. The ABC affiliate never aired the story for broadcast.

Ramsey kicked down the door of Ariel Castro's house on Monday, helping one of the three women kept captive in the house to escape.

Station news director Jill Manuel said Friday that while the story was factually correct, it was too soon to disseminate in Cleveland.
