Christopher Nolan's 'Dunkirk' Trailer Released After Online Leak

By Variety Staff

Warner Bros. officially released a one-minute announcement trailer for Christopher Nolan’s WWII drama Dunkirk on Thursday afternoon, hours after a portion leaked online.

The 30-second pirated clip was taken on a mobile device at an undisclosed theater. Warner Bros. quickly removed a few of the leaked footage from YouTube.

The official Dunkirk trailer wasn’t slated to debut until Friday; the clip is attached to Suicide Squad, which opens wide tomorrow.

Starring Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance, Dunkirk centers on the British military evacuation of the city of Dunkirk in 1940. It’s Nolan’s first feature film since Interstellar.

WB declined to comment.

The Memento director is no stranger to online pirates. An unofficial look at The Dark Knight Rises, his final Batman film, popped up online days before the trailer was released.

Produced by Nolan and his wife, Emma Thomas, Dunkirk co-stars One Direction singer Harry Styles, Jack Lowden and Aneurin Barnard. It is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 21, 2017.
