UPDATE: Christopher Nolan Denies Taking a Swipe at Marvel Movies
UPDATE: Tonight, in response to the below story, posted earlier today, Christopher Nolan sent us the statement, “I would never say someone else’s film isn’t ‘a real film’. The quote is inaccurate.”
While the rest of America hooted and hollered when Tony Stark and his pals munched on shawarma in the post-credit sequence of The Avengers, very serious filmmaker Christopher Nolan likely sipped from his trusty tea flask and frowned.
Nolan, who helped launch the latest era of superhero films with his grim Dark Knight trilogy, is evidently not a fan of silly codas at the end of big budget comic book movies.

In a new profile in the Guardian ahead of the release of Interstellar, Nolan scoffs at the idea that Zach Snyder might have considered adding his own fun post-credit scene at the end of the Nolan-produced film.
“A real movie wouldn’t do that,” Nolan said, thereby implying that multi-billion dollar Marvel machine was constituted of fake movies, colorful little piffles meant to pleasure audiences, not challenge their minds. (Our words, not his.)
Nolan has been reticent to fully return to the superhero world since The Dark Knight Rises was released in 2012; while he produced 2013’s Man of Steel and is an executive producer on the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, he declined the opportunity to produce a Batman reboot or Justice League series.

“I think I had a great experience with the superhero genre and got to explore a lot of things, but it was a good decade of my life and I find it hard to imagine returning to it,” he recently told Time Out: Chicago.
“But never say never,” he added, just to keep obsessive fanboys speculating and ultimately driven into madness.
