Chris Pratt Goes Biblical in James Gunn Comments

Reactions from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” cast have been flooding in regarding the firing of filmmaker James Gunn last week, and star Chris Pratt seemed to weigh in by quoting a Bible verse on Sunday.

“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters,” he wrote on Twitter, quoting from the Epistle of James in the New Testament. “Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.”

While Pratt doesn’t mention Gunn by name, the tweet comes just two days after Disney fired the director for jokes he had made years ago on Twitter about subjects such as rape and pedophilia. Gunn apologized for the tweets of nearly a decade ago, but that didn’t stop Twitter users from dredging up the questionable and controversial jokes the director had made and brought them to Disney’s attention.

The anti-Gunn push was started by right-wing Twitter figure Mike Cernovich, who came to prominence helping drive Twitter campaigns such as #PizzaGate, the conspiracy theory that posited Democrats were running a child sex slavery ring out of a pizza parlor, and GamerGate, which mostly harassed women in the video games and media industries.

There has since been a Change.org petition, which at the time of publication had over 175,000 signatures, asking Disney to reinstate Gunn as the director of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which is slated for a 2020 release.

While Gunn was never officially announced as the director for the film, it was all but expected that he would helm the film as he was the writer-director for the first two “Guardians” films and is widely considered to be one of the main creative forces behind the interstellar side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
