Chris Hemsworth's Near-Death Vacation Story

On Thursday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, Chris Hemsworth shared a story of his vacation to the Himalayas, where he nearly died from altitude sickness. He was visiting with his wife, Elsa Pataky, for a travel show. The two were gradually ascending the mountain, slowly acclimatizing to the altitude. Hemsworth said, “We went from 2,000 meters to 3,000 and slowly I kinda started to lose my mind.”

He described becoming irrational and being upset by “the most trivial, silly thing.” Soon his breathing was labored, sounding like “Darth Vader meets Daffy Duck.”

Pataky noticed Hemsworth’s irrational behavior and unnatural breathing and quickly brought guides back to check on him. The guides instantly knew he was in trouble, and he was rushed down the mountain to a lower altitude. After hearing the story, Jimmy Kimmel quipped, “You need a new travel agent.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on ABC.
