'Chicago Med': Dr. Charles Gets an Icy Reception From His Eldest Daughter

The Hollywood Reporter

Dr. Charles' eldest daughter is officially coming to Chicago Med. Just don't expect a warm and fuzzy father-daughter moment anytime in the near future.

In Thursday's episode, Mekia Cox makes her debut as Robyn Charles, an epidemiologist who follows her father into the medical profession. When several patients are discovered to have the same rare infection, Robyn is brought in to find the common link.

In this exclusive video from the episode, Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) makes it clear just how excited he is to have his daughter working at the same hospital.

"I'm proud of you," he tells her after asking her to coffee.

Unfortunately, it immediately becomes clear that it's going to take more than a cup of coffee and a few motivational words to win her over.

"He has a complex relationship with her because when she was a little girl, he was divorcing her mom," co-showrunner Andrew Schneider told THR last month. "He has issues not related to her, but about feeling his own inadequacy as a father at that time in his life."

Check out their tense reunion below:

Chicago Med airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.
