Channing Tatum: I Will 'Definitely' Not Appear in 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Don’t expect to see Gambit in next year’s sequel to ‘Days of Future Past.’

The question of just when X-Men audiences will get to meet Channing Tatum’s super powered thief Gambit has been one that’s gone unanswered over the last few months, with rumors flying around that the Magic Mike actor would make a cameo in next year’s X-Men: Apocalypse before headlining his own solo movie. Not so, Tatum has clarified.

During an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit Wednesday, Tatum was asked directly whether he’d be in Bryan Singer’s follow-up to X-Men: Days of Future Past, only to respond, “No ma'am, or sir. I definitely will not.” (In that Apocalypse takes place in the 1980s, it would be unusual for him to appear unless Gambit is also set in the past.)

He also talked about his enthusiasm for the project. “We finally found someone [Rupert Wyatt] that I really do believe wants to make [the movie],” he wrote. “I just really think because Gambit is not the most popular or the biggest hero, I think there’s a really unique opportunity. Marvel’s done a lot of great movies that have made a ridiculous amount of money, and it’s always good to figure how to change the form.” (This isn’t the first time Tatum has suggested that Gambit won’t be a straight forward superhero movie, although quite what that means remains a mystery.)

Gambit, written by Josh Zetumer from an outline by the character’s comic book creator Chris Claremont, is schedule for release next year.
