A History of Handprint Mishaps at Hollywood's TCL Chinese Theatre

Celebrities and wet cement. What could possibly go wrong? The Yahoo Movie Show recently took a tour of one of the most famous sidewalks in the world, the Forecourt of the TCL Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles where generations of movie stars have found concrete immortality by leaving their handprints and footprints in the walk leading up to the 87-year old theater’s opulent entrance.

The ceremonies themselves have always been lavish affairs, from the earliest ones honoring Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, to more recent celebrations of the Twilight cast and Sandra Bullock. But they don’t always go off without a hitch. Chinese Theatre historian and director of tours Levi Tinker walked us through some of the more memorable mishaps in the Forecourt’s history including a stray Regis Philbin step that accidentally landed next to Darth Vader and the mysteriously disappearing print of Kirk Douglas’ famous dimpled chin (seriously, how could you lose that?) Watch the clip above to learn about some other cement shenanigans.
