Nick Lachey, who was a member of 98 Degrees, and Donnie Wahlberg, formerly of New Kids On the Block, have teamed with Entourage creator Doug Ellin for Encore, a single-camera comedy that would draw on the duo’s experience as ex members of popular boy bands. The project, from producers Eric & Kim Tannenbaum, has been set up at CBS through CBS TV Studios and studio-based the Tannenbaum Co.

Written by Ellin, Encore is about former boy band members who reunite 20 years later. Ellin executive produces through his CBS TV Studios-based Halyard Parkr, along with the Tannenbaums, Wahlberg, Lachey and Jonathan Baruch. Halyard Park’s Andrew Moncrief will serve as a producer.

Lachey’s 98 Degrees, which was active from 1997 until 2002, and Wahlberg’s NKOTB (1984-94) both have reunited and have been performing together in the past few years. The two groups actually embarked on a joint tour in 2013 along with a third boy band, Boyz II Men. It was during Lachey and Wahlberg’s time together that the original idea for the show came about.

Also this season, NBC has in development drama Boys — about the formation of a hugely successful boy band — executive produced by Zayn Malik, former member of One Direction, and Dick Wolf.

Ellin created and executive produced the long-running HBO Hollywood-centric comedy series Entourage, inspired by the experiences of Wahlberg’s brother, Mark Wahlberg, who served as an executive producer. Ellin also wrote and directed the followup Entourage movie. Additionally, he executive produced ESPN’s 30 for 30: When the Garden Was Eden and  the upcoming Bad Santa 2, sequel which is set for release on November 23. He and Halyard Park are repped by CAA and Jeff Frank. The Tannenbaum Co. is repped by CAA.

Wahlberg, star of the CBS/CBS TV Studios drama series Blue Bloods, is an executive producer on The Joey Mac Project for Pop, also from CBS TV Studios. He also executive produces and stars in A&E’s reality series Wahlburgers for A&E.
