Cast of 'Civil War' Reveals Horrors of Wearing Superhero Costumes

On Wednesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, the cast of Captain America: Civil War stopped by to commiserate over their elaborate costumes. Don Cheadle, who played War Machine, said that when his character’s visor was down, he would be pretending to be Wesley Snipes. Also that he was never replaced by a stand-in — even with the visor down. On the other hand, Robert Downey Jr. said that when his character’s visor was down, he was getting a shiatsu massage.

Paul Bettany, who played Vision, had the worst costume story. He had to be in makeup several hours before filming. Sweating would undo all the efforts by the makeup crew, so he had a radiator of sorts built into his costume that was constantly circulating cool water.

Emily VanCamp was thankful she didn’t have an elaborate costume. She would get occasional whiffs of her co-stars, filming in the Georgia heat, and was glad she was in “human clothes.”
