Check Out Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie’s Pitch for a Captain America-Falcon Buddy Comedy

You’ve probably noticed that Marvel movies have begun spinning out into a swath of different genres. There was the political thriller (Captain America: Winter Soldier), the space opera (Guardians of the Galaxy), and the heist film (Ant-Man). It’s hard to tell yet what new category the superhero hitmakers are aiming for with next summer’s Captain America: Civil War — battle epic, perhaps? — but we do know that the film’s stars Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie have thought about what a buddy comedy would look like featuring Cap and his sidekick, Falcon.

“We’re working on that right now!” both said enthusiastically during our sitdown at Disney’s D23 celebration, which you can watch above. Mackie joked that they’ve even been shooting a little side-project during their downtime on the Civil War set, a caper with the tongue-in-cheek title Captain and Falcon in Jamaica.

Mackie went on with more details on this entirely hypothetical project: “We have appearances by the other two Chrises, Pratt comes in, Hemsworth comes in, ScarJo comes in and does this amazing Josephine Baker lounge thing in a banana skirt. It’s pretty dope.” (We hope Marvel studios honcho Kevin Feige is listening.)

Evans and Mackie first teamed up in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier when super-soldier Steve Rogers recruited para-rescueman Sam Wilson to help him root out a corrupted S.H.I.E.L.D. Sam’s Falcon graduated to official Avenger status at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and in Civil War (also known as Avengers 2.5), he’s one of a handful of crime-fighters who get Cap’s back when Mr. America goes head-to-head against Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.).

Captain America: Civil War opens May 6, 2016. Captain and Falcon in Jamaica opens probably never.
