Ethan Embry Recalls Jennifer Love Hewitt's Pre-Kiss Gift Basket From 'Can't Hardly Wait'

Ethan Embry had plenty of great moments as a young actor coming up in the 1990s. There was that salacious nap in Dutch (1991), the mayhem within the walls of Empire Records (1995), and all that rocking out for Tom Hanks in That Thing You Do! (1996). But no moment was more enviable for those coming of age with him than the last scene of the teen comedy Can’t Hardly Wait (1998), where — spoiler alert — his bookish Preston Myers got to lock lips with his prom-queen crush, Amanda Beckett (Jennifer Love Hewitt).

“The day we did that end sequence at the train station, Jennifer brought me this big basket of breath mints, because I smoked, and teddy bears,” Embry recalled to Yahoo Movies. “It was really, really sweet. Nobody’s ever done that since, or [did it] before.”

Embry, whose latest film, the post-Civil War drama Echoes of War, is now on VOD and DVD/Blu-ray, shared other memories from the set of the beloved party flick, including the awkwardness of how all the extras had to dance to no music, which you can watch in the video above.
