LONDON – Paul Solet (Grace) is lined up to direct supernatural horror Dark Summer based on a screenplay by K-Town web series creator Mike Le.
Billed as a stylized modern ghost story, Dark Summer follows the tale of a 17-year-old on house arrest for the summer. With his mother away on business, a horrifying incident occurs, followed by an even more terrifying presence in the house.
The movie will be produced by Preferred Film & TV (PFT), a joint venture between Content Media Corporation (CMC) and Preferred Content’s Ross Dinerstein and Kevin Iwashina.
Dinerstein will produce with Content Film’s Jamie Carmichael executive producing the title.
Content will handle international sales beginning at Cannes and will share North American sales duties with Preferred Content’s Iwashina.
Production is set to begin in fall 2013.
Dinerstein describes Solet as possessing a "visceral visual style" that is ideal when combined with Le's "complex characters" in the script.
Carmichael said: "We’re so excited to be working with him and our partners at Preferred on such a cool movie. We’re building a really first class business together, and Dark Summer looks like yet another great franchise starter."
The Content slate also includes Mr. Jones, written and directed by Karl Mueller, recently acquired for North America by Anchor Bay.
Solet is repped by Paradigm and Principato Young and Le is represented by APA and manager Jonathan Hung.
