The Hollywood Reporter released its first Cannes daily issue as the festival kicked off on May 13. The issue features an interview with Mad Max: Fury Road helmer George Miller, a preview of this year's market and several exclusive deal stories.
Miller Revs Up for Mad Max
Miller has been trying to make a Mad Max movie for 15 years. "You think you’ll never see another Mad Max, and then it pops its head up again — in the sense, you couldn’t kill it with a stick. Every time you thought it would go away, the planets would realign, and suddenly one day the rocket launches and away you go," he said in his interview with THR. The helmer talks to THR about casting Tom Hardy, and the challenges of bringing the story to the big screen.
Hathaway Goes 'Colossal'
A slew of deals were announced ahead of the start of the market. Anne Hathaway, as THR exclusively reported, will star in Colossal. In the movie — described as Godzilla meets Lost in Translation — Hathaway will play Gloria, an ordinary woman who, after losing her job and her fiancé, decides to leave her life in New York to move back to her hometown. But when news reports surface that a giant lizard is destroying the city of Tokyo, Gloria gradually comes to realize that she is strangely connected to these far-off events via the power of her mind.
Rapace to Play Maria Callas
Niki Caro’s biopic of Maria Callas is moving forward, with Noomi Rapace set to star as the famed opera diva who had a two-decade affair with Aristotle Onassis.
