Camille and Kelsey Grammer’s daughter, Mason, made her New York Fashion Week debut on Thursday. As any proud parent would, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star shared multiple shots on social media from her front row perch of her child wearing a silk patterned romper with knee-high boots and a waist-cinching belt. She even put aside marital issues with her ex (they finalized their divorced in 2010, but not before a lengthy and public battle) to show her support.

Mason opened the Malan Breton runway with her blonde hair crimped and eyebrows temporarily dyed with peroxide. “My daughter Mason @malanbreton #nyfw She had a blast! Thank you Malan and @theimageguru. Back to reality. School and Soccer,” Camille shared in the caption of a post on Instagram.

A famous person’s spawn becoming a model is so expected these days, it almost isn’t even newsworthy. There’s the Hadid and Jenner sisters, the Penn siblings, Jude Law’s daughter Iris, Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose, Christie Brinkley’s kids, and more. But what’s interesting about Mason, is that she’s just 14.

According to the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which has a health initiative for NYFW designers to follow, members should “support the well-being of younger individuals by not hiring models under the age of sixteen for runway shows; not allowing models under the age of eighteen to work past midnight at fittings or shoots; and providing regular breaks and rest.”

In a statement to Yahoo Style when asked about the young girl’s involvement, the organization stressed its Health Initiative, which was adopted in 2007. “The CFDA communicates this message to its members prior to the spring and fall castings, and there has been great acceptance of this guideline. We also support the New York State Legislature law stating that all models under 18 must be treated as child performers.”

Seeing a high school-aged girl on the runway used to be a regular occurrence, but thanks to policies and outcry regarding mistreatment and eating disorders, it’s become a thing of the past. So should a celebrity’s kid be exempt from the regulations? Probably not. The privileges of being famous don’t include a get of of jail free card, especially when it comes to children.

Unfortunately, the United States has lagged behind other countries in protecting young women in the modeling industry. Israel, Spain, and France have all witnessed government intervention, with companies in some places even subject to stiff penalties if broken. Raf Simons cast a 14-year-old for Dior’s Fall/Winter 2016 Haute Couture show in Paris last July and was met with criticism. Roos Abels, Lindsey Wixson, Kelly Mittendorf, Antonia Wesseloh, and Ondria Hardin were all also underage when they were discovered.
