Busan: Media Castle Unveils Animation Coproduction ‘Hello, Tyranno’

Media Castle, a Korean company best known for importing Japanese animation director Shinkai Makoto’s “5 Centimeters per Second” and Japan’s 2015 Oscars contender “100 Yen Love,” is to co-finance a multinational animation based on Miyanishi Tatsuya’s Tyrannosaurus series. The feature will be made with Korea Investment Partners and China’s Beijing Resolution.

Titled “Hello, Tyranno” in Korean, the animation will be directed by Japanese director Kobun Shizuno (“Case Closed”) and produced by Japan’s Tezuka Production (“Astro Boy”.)

“Hello, Tyranno” sees the adventure and love story between a male tyrannosaurus that looks aggressive but does not make a kill and a female pteranodon. According to Media Castle, “Tyranno” will open in 2018.

Media Castle has recently acquired Korean rights to Shinkai Makoto’s “Your Name,” Lee Sang-il’s “Rage” and “Godzilla Resurgence” by Shinji Higuchi and Hideaki Anno. “Name,” which has enjoyed seven weeks at the top of the Japanese box office, is set for a January release in Korea.
