Bruce Springsteen Wrote a Song for 'Harry Potter' — and It Was Rejected

Throughout the course of eight films, Daniel Radcliffe’s boy wizard Harry Potter enlisted the aid of numerous allies in his battle against the malevolent Lord Voldemort. Yet in a new interview, we now learn there was at least one famous collaborator whose help he — or, at least, his films’ creative team — chose to reject.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2 to host Simon Mayo (via Uproxx) on his book tour for new memoir Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen mentioned that he actually penned a song to be used in one of the Harry Potter films, but that it never made the cut. And according to Springsteen, the track, “I’ll Stand by You Always,” remains something he’d like to find a home for.
“It was pretty good. It was a song that I wrote for my eldest son, it was a big ballad that was very uncharacteristic of something I’d sing myself. But it was something that I thought would have fit lovely; at some point I’d like to get it into a children’s movie of some sort because it was a pretty lovely song.”

While a Springsteen ballad might have stood out a bit too much in one of Radcliffe’s fantasy adventures, it remains somewhat startling to learn that The Boss was interested in getting into a corner of the Potter-verse — and that they wouldn’t have him.
