Wisconsin extends head coach Gary Andersen’s contract through 2018 season

After going 9-4 in his first season at Wisconsin, Badgers head coach Gary Andersen had his contract extended through the 2018 season, the school announced Friday.

Andersen took over the program last December following the unexpected departure of Bret Bielema to Arkansas prior to the 2013 Rose Bowl. When Andersen was first hired away from Utah State, he agreed to a five-year, $10 million contract with $100,000 annual raises. The terms of his new contract, which ends Jan. 31, 2019, were not released.

Andersen had a mostly successful first season in Madison. Following tough losses to Arizona State and Ohio State early in the season, the Badgers won six straight games and were 9-2, but the season ended with a home loss to Penn State and a Capital One Bowl loss to South Carolina on New Years Day.
